[U] linguistics the correspondence between the form of a verb and its subject. In English, only the third person singular, present simple, changes to agree with its subject. Regular verbs add ‘s' to the base form, as in ‘she says he believes it'. The verbs ‘be', ‘have', and ‘do' are irregular, for example in the sentences ‘A thorough search was carried out', ‘It doesn't matter', and ‘The course has given me more confidence', there is agreement between the subject and the verb groups ‘was carried out', ‘doesn't matter', and ‘has given'.
